We do Red Heads!

2012 Calf Crop

The calf crop started off this year while attending the Denver National Western Livestock Show. Fortunately, we have an amazing crew at home that allows time away. Every night the heavies are placed in a 100 x 200 foot barn with plenty of straw. They are checked 2-3 times per night and then let out in the morning. This way the calves get a good, dry start and we do not lose ears to fridged, cold weather. If any calves are born, they are weighed, tagged, and provided a dry pen for 48 hours.

We continue to calve until the first part of March. It is at that time the cows are gathered and taken to the mountains near our farm. They are checked twice daily with feed and supplements being given. We have had tremendous success with our operation and continue to learn new things to expand upon.

Picture 1: What else but a PIE Code Red baby. You can pick these calves a mile away with their dark cherry-red color, small heads, and curious personalities.

Picture 2: This is a very exciting ET combination, PIE True Blood 0125 x Lakeview Blockana 6002 which is an ET out of Glacier Chateau 744 and VDAR Blackana 303!! Very exciting little package here.

Picture 3: This is our daughter Payton and her cow PIE Playmate 9175.

Picture 4: Bulls will be bulls!

Picture 5: This ET is VGW Game Plan 508 x PIE Prime Canyon 927. This is the donor cow we purchased from Piepers Red Angus that has raised 4 herd bulls for Pieper's that are all around the county. This is a full brother to the bull we sold at the Black Hills Stock Show this year. His sire, VGW Game plan was also the sire of the late PIE Code Red 9058!! How exciting is that!! Check him out...he is all Bull.
