JRA ROUND-UP 2010 ''Payton and I attended the 2010 Junior Red Angus Round-Up in Oregon this year. We got to meet many people from all over the country and see Ranches all throughout Oregon. We all met in Portland, Oregon as our headquarters for the tour. The next day we were down the road by 7:00 am and headed on our way. We saw some beautiful waterfalls on our way to Beef Northwest enroute to Lorenzen's in Pendelton, Oregon. We had an Equipment I.D. contest and a Ranch Rodeo back at the ranch. Lorenzens provided a steak cook out for us that was much appreciated! Departing Pendleton we visited Double Eagle Ranch, Owing's, and 6R. That evening we had burgers and participated in a Quiz Bowl and cattle evaluation session. Again departing at 7:00 we headed to Lookingglass Red Angus in Roseburg, Oregon. On our way to Lookingglass, we got the opportunity to visit a Wildlife park that was simply amazing. Brian Heinze provided pizza back at his ranch thereafter. After supper, we all participated in a Teams Sales contest and a Stockman's quiz. We fortunately got to sleep in a couple of hours before touring Roseburg Forest Products. After the tour we boarded the bus and headed for Coos Bay and the BEACH! There we has a bonfire, tide pool exploring, and games. Unfortunately it was the coldest day on the entire tour and instead of swimsuits and lemonade it was sweats and coffee! Still everyone had a great time. Corvallis, Oregon was our next stop. We visited a ranch and was provided an excellent lunch. Then, we traveled to the University of Oregon School of Veterinary Medicine which was fascinating. We attended an Ethics workshop while we were there that was very informative and inspiring. Lastly, we returned back to the Portland headquarters for the JRA Annual Business Meeting, JRA Officer Elections, Awards ceremony, Chinese auction, and pizza party. After all the evening activities I think we finally returned to our rooms about midnight. WHEW!! I would sincerely like to give a BIG Thanks to Dawn Bernard for all her organization, friendliness, time, and patience!! KOODOS to a successful JRA Summer Tour. Please drop her a BIG thank you!'' ~ Shawna Hunter-Fehringer |
